CHARACTER DESCRIPTION

The Astronaut

Our astronaut is something of a mystery, but even their helmet’s reflective visor can’t hide the inherent curiosity driving their journey through space and time. The astronaut wants to learn, loves to ask questions, and then try to formulate the answers out of what they see, what they know, and what they can deduce.

At heart both a true scientist and an explorer, their curiosity sometimes gets the better of them, as they recklessly plunge into unchartered waters, or is simply unable to resist the temptation to touch, nudge, prod and examine whatever celestial mystery appears before them. But this innocent naivety is deceptive; behind their enthusiasm resides a contemplative, poetic soul, a scientific rigor, and an acute gift of observation. Nothing escapes their keen gaze, and their gift for extrapolation and scientifically based conjecture is second to none.

Equipped with a space suit with technology far beyond anything humanity is able to conjure up today, the astronaut travels across the cosmos, both back to its early beginning and forwards to its final stages. The suit is both spaceship, habitational module and a science lab, containing any technology or analyzing equipment imaginable. While the astronaut has a certain melancholy to them, they are not sad, scared or lonely. Sometimes playful, sometimes serious, there is an impish quality that makes them unpredictable and a bit dangerous in quite a charming and appealing way. They are always on the move, always reaching out for new understanding, aiming to unravel yet another mystery of the cosmos.

Where the astronaut comes from is of no importance. They are the universe, observing itself. They are us.

The astronaut was redesigned by space suit company Nåva Space and Blue Faces studio this summer. During the autumn /winter we may work further on the design together with our main art designer Nikolai Lockertsen.
