VISUAL CONCEPT & TECHNIQUE

Visually, Scope of the Universe stands out by bringing the bold, hybrid 2D/3D style, familiar from groundbreaking animated films and games (ref: photos),  into the world of documentary storytelling. Hand-painted textures combined with cinematic 3D depth creates a world that feels both artistic and scientifically grounded, designed to captivate our target audience raised on visually stunning, narrative-driven content.

Unlike traditional science documentaries that rely on realism or live-action, this animated style gives us the freedom to jump between hard science and imaginative exploration. From the heart of black holes to the edges of time. Tested with our target audience, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. The painted style and shifting perspectives offer just enough artistic distance to make big existential themes exciting and accessible.

Our astronaut is recently redesigned by our partner Nåva Space, a Norwegian spacesuit company. What you see is essentially a slightly adapted version of their real suit, used by ESA for training purposes. So even though our series takes us beyond imagination, and the astronaut to places no human could ever go, the design itself is grounded in real space technology. And that balance between the real and the imagined also defines our visual style.

VISUAL TESTS

These first visual tests were made by the Slovak studio BlueFaces, and we are still an early exploration of the final look. All made without the use of AI.  Classic 3D pipeline with digitally handpainted textures.

We will also collaborate with scientists in the animation process to get the visuals scientifically correct
